Ancoria is a small archipelagic nation located in the Atlantic Ocean. Its surrounding countries are Portugal and Spain in the northeast, Qranth and Morocco in the southeast, and Rossien in the southwest.

Ancoria is composed of fifteen islands. Thirteen of its fourteen islands are long islands curving along its main island, Luxersom, located at the center of the Ancorian Isles; thus, the reason behind its pseudonym, Echo Kingdom, as the islands are shaped like an echo.

People of Ancoria

The inhabitants of Ancoria are referred to collectively as Ancorinos, with “Ancorino” serving as both a neutral and masculine form, and “Ancorina” as its feminine counterpart. Owing to Ancoria’s rich history of exploration, conquest, trade, and migration, its population is highly diverse.
The indigenous people of Ancoria are divided into two major — often warring — tribal groups: the Rassai and the Ikraros. Each are devoted to a different deity or taniko in Cilarchi — Rassais to Rassa, taniko of the sea; Ikraros to Kraros, taniko of the land. A third tribal group formed later, known as the Ikaris, a group that first splintered from the Ikraros in the 1400s, refusing to serve both Rassa and Kraros. They are resented by the two other tribes for different reasons.
Since the arrival of foreigners in the 15th century, Ancoria has grown to be a diverse country with cultural influences from:
  • Its neighboring countries — Spain, Portugal, France, and England in Europe; Qranth, Rossien, Morocco, Western Sahara, and Egypt in Africa.
  • Distant countries like Mexico, Philippines, China, Japan, India, and other Southeast Asian islands through the Manila Galleon Trade in the 16th century.

Government of Qranth

Ancoria is a monarchy ruled by a King and Queen, with power centralized in the Royal Council of 33, which includes hereditary noble lords, elected councilmen, and an appointed military leader for Paxnisi.

  • Executive: The King is Commander-in-Chief, overseeing the Royal Guard, military, police, and Peregrines (intelligence agency).
  • Legislative: The Senate (24 elected senators) drafts laws, but the Royal Council and King can overturn them. The Representaire (40 representatives) proposes legislation.
  • Judiciary: The High Court (12 judges) is the top legal body, though the King and Royal Council can overturn rulings.
