I have a revised and improved edition of my debut novel, The Beauty in their Scars, in the works. The manuscript has gone through several rounds of edits, and it’s at the point where it’s ready to have second eyes on it. I’m currently calling for beta readers for the novel.
Beta Reading Details
- Number of Chapters: 67 Chapters
- Word Count: 110,000+ words
- Beta Reading Deadline: March 7, 2025
To make sure we’re on the same page, here are a few things you can expect from this process:
- Beta Reading is Interactive. It is not the same as receiving an ARC where you will get a copy of the finished book so you can leave an honest review. As a beta reader, you are more involved in giving feedback about the book. If you would rather receive an ARC than beta read, please feel free to join Paradox A.R.T. — the team of mine receiving ARCs.
- Don’t Expect a Polished Product. I have several rounds of edits and revisions before sending out a manuscript to beta readers, but this is still the part of the process where a lot can change in the story or a lot of typos still weasel their way in. By being a beta reader, you will be given space to point out things you feel needs to change. I ask you to be honest, but be kind. I have trouble receiving critique when someone only points out the negative. I receive critique better as a “sandwich”. For every negative, try to point out one or two positives. If you genuinely can’t see anything positive, then spare us both the agony and opt not to receive the next two chapters.
- You’ll be added to a temporary mailing list for beta readers. You’ll be automatically removed from the list at the end of the beta reading process unless you opt to stay or you’re already part of my main list.
- You’ll be receiving the book 3-5 chapters at a time. You’ll receive them in either PDF format or through Google Docs. Once you’re finished reading the chapters, there’ll be a questionnaire for you to fill out. Once you finish filling out the questionnaire, you’ll receive the next chapters automatically (if you opt to receive them.)
