Lumaire Community College (LCC) | Established 1984

At the northeastern edge of Lumaire Valley, at the corner base of Samsila Peaks and Lumaire Hills, Lumaire Community College stands as an answer to the town’s growing educational aspirations. Founded in 1984 by philanthropist and educator Susan Madison, the college was built on the belief that quality higher education shouldn’t require leaving the valley. What began as a modest post-secondary extension has grown into a vital institution for the region — serving young adults, working professionals, and lifelong learners from across Chelidon.

The campus reflects the ethos of its founder: unpretentious, thoughtful, and rooted in the land it occupies. Clusters of low-slung buildings, clad in local stone and warm-toned timber, blend into the terrain rather than dominate it. Courtyards bloom with native plants, and glass walkways offer sweeping views of the Samsila Peaks to the north and the misty lowlands below. The college’s architecture leans toward a blend of rustic elegance and quiet modernity — spacious interiors, open-air study areas, and classrooms filled with natural light.

Lumaire Community College offers a flexible curriculum with associate degrees, certificate programs, and transfer pathways in liberal arts, environmental sciences, agricultural technology, culinary studies, and local history. A strong emphasis is placed on applied learning and community engagement, from sustainable farming projects in nearby fields to cultural preservation initiatives in collaboration with the Lumaire Museum.

Though still relatively young, Lumaire Community College has become a cornerstone of the valley’s evolving identity — a place where community meets possibility.
